Distance Education

A huge advantage with distance education is that the student does not ever have to physically go anywhere. This gives them less excuses for not being present. Because students do not have to be physically present it could allow some students to enjoy school more. Also, some students are very busy and distance learning gives them a chance to learn on their time, when they are ready.

A con of distance education from the students point of veiw is that many students would have trouble becoming engaged in a teacher who is not there and does not know them. Without the teacher in the room with the students, some students may feel that the teacher has no interest in them. The students may feel zero motavation which could be very difficult for some students, and could force students to lose interest in school.

  1. you make a great point for the students pros for distance education. I think you are right in the fact that they would enjoy doing this from their homes and being able to do it on their time. I also think this could become a thin line to walk as some students may not do the work if somebody is not pushing them daily in a classroom. You point this out partly in your cons section. I also feel you are right in some of the students thinking the teacher may not care about the students. I think this post is a great viewpoint of students and how they would see distance learning.

  2. I agree with both statements. I know that one of the biggest hurdles for a college student is actually get up and going to class, especially when there are feet of snow outside. In those cases distance education would be the best option no contest. However I also agree that it would be much harder to engage in a class without knowing your teacher and without the extra push of responsibility. But in contrast to that I have experienced many teachers you are disengaging and who in no way get to know you. So while that is a valid concern I think that especially in college course it is also as likely to be ignored by a teacher as it is to be not motivated by a distance teacher.
